Job Purpose:  

The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for achieving individual, team revenue goals and market share goals set by GM and Company to achieve the financial, business and marketing objectives of the hotel. Leading and managing all day-to-day activities related to the sales function with a focus on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of property sales objectives. Achieves personal booking goals and makes recommendations on booking goals of direct reports.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Leads and manages and trains sales team so that each team member achieves their revenue goals and budget
  • Takes direction and partners with General Manager or assigned Marketing Strategist on hotel positioning
  • Achieve and exceed budgeted room nights and revenue goals annually
  • Prepare proposals and/or contracts to advise prospective customers primarily of the hotel guest rooms, but also meeting space and/or banquet date, space and rate availability. Compute and quote prices for same.
  • Attend weekly sales meeting and Revenue Maximization meetings. Complete all required sales reports.
  • Conduct site inspections with potential clients, visiting guest rooms, meeting space and banquet facilities, as well as other hotel facilities.
  • Assists in developing rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management
  •  Conduct performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline when appropriate.
  • Ensure training programs are conducted regularly and Company standards of performance are followed.
  • Provide guidance, counsel, training and support to sales staff for continuous improvement.
  • Compile and/or direct the preparation of reports pertaining to the operation of the Sales Department to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly account production, Forecast, Business Intelligence, Lost Business Report, Star Report and Sales Meeting Minutes,
  •  Collaborate on preparation, revision and execution of annual Sales Plan and execute plans as outlined, critically examining and adjusting as deemed necessary by current market conditions and direction from General Manager
  • Organize and/or attend scheduled Sales Department and related meetings.

SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major preferred
  • 2-5 years Sales experience in the Los Angeles Market, selling an upscale hotel
  • Proven track record of successful sales history
  • 2-5 years of luxury hotel sales experience in the Los Angeles market. Strong experience in Corporate Transient, Entertainment, Leisure Transient and small Group segments preferred
  • Good communication skills (verbal, listening, writing)
  • A complete understanding of forecasting, prospecting, qualifying and selling with an emphasis on new business development and account management.
  • Well-developed leadership competencies.
  • Strong organizer and planner, able to think long / short term.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and extract trends from data and strategize outcomes.
  • knowledge of accounting and budgeting along with the ability to compile facts/figures and analyze information that involves data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions
  • Comprehensive understanding of CRM Software
  • Participate in trade shows, conventions, and promotional events within the hotel, industry, and customer organizations
