The Role

The Human Resources Director (HRD) is responsible to administer and direct the Human Resources (HR) functions at the community including but not limited to: providing HR guidance and administrative support; file and record keeping complying with Company and legal guidelines; and providing HR advisement, coordination, and training to Community management and their Associates.  Additionally, the HRD plays an important role in Associate relations by facilitating open communication, Associate recognition and celebration opportunities.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Talent Management

  • Plan and manage the recruitment, interviewing, hiring and orientation processes to maintain staffing levels with qualified individuals while complying with policies and procedures, federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the recruitment process at the Community. This includes planning and conducting recruitment open houses, posting ads via media sources (i.e. newspaper, website, etc.) and other recruitment sources such as Associate referrals when appropriate.
  • Position the community as the "preferred employer" in the area by maintaining strong community relations with referral agencies, education establishments to maintain a strong applicant flow.
  • Coordinate interviews with hiring managers based on Company interviewing protocol.
  • Test candidates based on Company interviewing protocol.
  • Coordinate candidate/applicant flow via electronic payroll system, to include assisting managers in the use of the electronic payroll system as needed. Ensure the rapid recruitment, testing and background checks to facilitate the speedy and appropriate filling of open positions.
  • Plan and attend local area recruitment events such as job fairs, college recruitment events, and presenting HR-related topics at local colleges and other organizations.
  • Coordinate high school, college and other organizational internships.

 

Training

  • Present HR training programs to include behavioral interviewing, violence in the workplace, corrective action, and harassment. This also includes presentation of other elective HR programs.
  • Assist with the on-boarding process by advising management regarding reference checks, background checks, sex offender checks, and drug testing, etc.
  • Coordinate and conduct associate orientation to introduce the associate to the community/company and ensure the appropriate information is disseminated and the appropriate forms are completed and processed: may include but not limited to, new hire forms, tax forms, benefit enrollment forms, I-9 forms and an overview to the company handbook and associate policies.

 

Associate Relations

  • Address requests for information from Community management and staff with regard to Company policies & procedures.
  • Administer and advise management regarding the Company corrective action program.
  • Serve as a witness and participate in Corrective Action levels as appropriate. Act as HR adviser to Executive Director and management staff regarding all HR matters.  Assist with the monthly departmental recognition calendar and facilitate the selection and celebration of the Associate of the Month and other Associate recognition efforts.
  • Act as liaison between the Community and corporate staff to assure alignment with and consistency of HR policies & procedures.
  • Assist managers in ensuring Associate compliance with the Company grooming and appearance guidelines.
  • Participate in Safety Committee meetings. Ensure that Associates know their responsibilities related to safety, including use of safety attire, personal protective equipment and proper reporting procedures.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Company Wellness Program
  • May be assigned to other communities in the Company on various HR initiatives and projects.
  • Maintain current knowledge regarding changes in HR-related federal and state employment laws and the latest HR trends.
  • Facilitate HR networking by joining local HR groups and establishing contacts with other local HR contacts in the area.
  • Participate in Community outreach programs as appropriate such as Community-sponsored fundraisers and marketing events.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings and training as directed by Company policy and the Executive Director.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming to reflect leadership and integrity including wearing a name tag when on duty.
  • Be constantly watchful of signs that residents are not able to function independently or a change in resident's behavior. Report all signs to the Executive Director following the Company policies and procedures.
  • Report any and all deferred maintenance, vandalism or hazardous situations to the Executive Director as discovered and take appropriate action as necessary.
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance with all regulations regarding residents' rights.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident, staff, or Community information deemed as such.

 

Daily Responsibilities

  • Assure current posting of open positions on the Company website via online payroll system and the Community's Associate bulletin board.
  • On a regular basis, check the Associate bulletin board to be sure all notices are current, neat and legally compliant.
  • Maintain updated and orderly Associate personnel files, to include tracking and maintaining required updates to Community Associate Criminal Background Checks, MVR, TB tests, all food and alcohol certifications and all required documentation. Ensure ongoing compliance with all personnel files and tracking logs.
  • Explain benefits and compensation items to Associates and consult with corporate contacts when necessary to provide current and accurate information to Associates.
  • Monitor Workers Compensation claims and assist in closing open claims. Champion the Light Duty program.
  • Ensure that Associate status is properly coded in all Associates' home department in collaboration with Department Heads.
  • Present staffing reports at Department Head meetings to contrast actual hours of labor with budgeted hours of labor by department. Present Turnover reports.
  • Assist in the benefits open enrollment period.
  • Advise Community Associates with regard to workers' compensation, vacation, sick leave, FMLA, and personnel leave activity.
  • Process forms and respond to written and oral inquiries regarding verification of employment, wages, and worker compensation claims, in a manner which is consistent and ensure that liability is minimized.
  • Compile various corporate reports and community reports to provide management with accurate information and comply with corporate policies and procedures as well as government laws and regulations.
  • Monitor the time and attendance system that all managers are approving punches and/or adding missed punches from their departments.
  • Input/update ADP new hires, terms and daily changes to ensure accurate, up-to-date information is available for payroll and management.
  • Process payroll and provide reporting for payroll related functions to the Executive Director and the corporate office.
  • Work closely with SVP Human Resources, Director Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition Specialist/Recruiter, Policy & Training Specialist, Payroll and Benefits Manager and Payroll & Benefits Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Special Requirements/Certifications:

  • 2-year college degree or equivalent.
  • PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related generalist experience in broad-based human resources areas to include training, recruitment, and Associate relations.
  • Must have working knowledge of appropriate Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel Power Point and Outlook). Familiarity with payroll software is preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge of basic office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, calculator, etc.).
  • Must possess strong judgment/decision making and exhibit attention to detail skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are vital.
  • Must be adaptable/flexible, self-motivated, and be able to tolerate ambiguity.
  • Must have a positive Criminal Background Screening.
