Position Title:            Event Services (ES) Worker

Reports to:                 Event Services (ES) Lead Hand &/or

                                    Event Services (ES) Manager

Position Summary

 

Reporting to the ES Manager &/or ES Lead Hands, the ES crew member is responsible for the day-to-day setup and teardown and cleaning of event areas in the Centre.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Vacuuming event areas and rooms and sweeping and mopping dance floors prior to and after event completion;
  • Cleaning (sweeping, mopping) and organizing service corridors and event service storage areas;
  • Cleaning the following areas:
    • Meeting rooms
    • Show offices in the Neilson Block
    • Exhibition and banquet halls
  • Setting up and tearing down of event areas (as per established ES Standards) with the required furniture and equipment according to information indicated on the work order and floor plans:
    • Tables
    • Buffet tables 
    • Chairs
    • Table linens for meeting related functions
    • Table skirting
    • Small risers (16" & 24")
    • Steps to small risers
    • All risers (16" & 24") skirting
    • Risers for podiums
    • Ice water stations/ice water on tables
    • Small garbage cans
    • Coat racks
    • Whiteboards and erasable markers
    • Mirrors
    • Portable chalk boards, chalk and brushes (clean boards & brushes as required)
    • Pads of paper and pens/pencils
    • Tack boards
    • Cork boards
    • Stations
    • Plants
    • Draw drums
  • Upon event completion the areas are vacuumed and cleaned and either reset or the furniture and equipment is placed in the appropriate storage areas;
  • Disposing of garbage from all event areas.  
  • Spot cleaning/shampooing of carpeting and gum removal from event areas;
  • Cleaning, organizing and maintaining the event services storage areas and service corridors'.  This includes hanging all skirting, stacking linens and ensuring equipment (i.e. tables, chairs, risers, steps, carts, room dividers, coat racks etc.) is stored in the designated storage area;
  • Daily sorting and delivery of dirty linens to the Marriott Hotel for laundry services;
  • Cleaning and performing minor repairs on chairs and vacuum cleaners used by the department (i.e. emptying vacuum bags, cleaning filters and recharging batteries);
  • Ensuring water cooler bottles are replaced as required and replenish paper cup supplies located by the water coolers;
  • Delivering damaged equipment to the appropriate department for repair (i.e. electrical repairs to the Electrician; table, chair, riser and air wall repairs to Maintenance);
  • Sliding and locking portable air wall panels into position and removal and storage of same;
  • Ensuring fire and emergency exits are kept clear of any equipment at all times;
  • Removal of garbage and recyclables from exhibition hall and prefunction areas;
  • Assisting maintenance and engineering with electrical cord wrap-up as required;
  • Assisting other departments as required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience and Assets

  • Team player who enjoys working in a fast paced customer service oriented environment;
  • Must be physically fit to perform all physical requirements of the position (i.e. walking, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending etc.);
  • Ability to work shift work, weekends and holidays;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Mechanical aptitude (ability to "fix things");
  • Awareness of safety regulations and requirements and proven ability to work safely;
  • Previous function setup experience would be a definite asset; and
  • Forklift experience and certification would also be an asset.
