A hands-on leader, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will support the Superintendent and Director of Agronomy in day-to-day management of the Club's Golf Course Maintenance department and staff of 32, ensuring they deliver 5-star service and facilities on a daily basis. DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance to Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy with the development of sustainability and technology goals
  • Responsible for planning and implementing sustainability and technology goals and Fertilizer/Chemical program
  • Keep abreast of trends in technology, pest control and sustainability in the Turfgrass industry
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting process including capital, operating and labor budgets
  • Implement and oversee quality control, concentrating on providing a highly detailed facility
  • Communicate course conditions and equipment issues to the Superintendent
  • Inspect all components of the golf course to ensure compliance with established maintenance standards

  • Create departmental schedules and assign work as requested, ensuring all staff receive appropriate rest and meal breaks and that overtime is approved in advance
  • Run pre and post shift meetings to discuss daily activities and feedback, provide motivation and promote teamwork; ensure opening and closing checks lists are completed and perform walk-throughs in all Golf Maintenance service areas, ensuring that all Golf Maintenance systems are operational
  • Coach and counsel staff to ensure that standards of operation are being met at all levels of service, and a healthy work environment is being achieved; provide timely detailed accounts of disciplinary issues to Supervisor and HR, assuring consistency and accuracy, and contribute to administering disciplinary actions
  • Listen to all Member and staff complaints resolving as much as possible, collaborating with supervisor and ensuring a written record of the complaint is logged with GM, Clubhouse Manager, Department Head and HR when employees are involved
  • Maintain an expertise in Club safety policies and procedures, including active CPR/First Aid Certification; serve as a member of the Safety committee and conduct monthly safety training for staff and any new hires; make recommendations to improve the safety of the work environment for both employees and members; complete timely accident reports and oversee compliance with work restrictions
  • Oversee maintenance of golf course maintenance equipment; responsible for managing to the budget on a day-to-day basis, ensuring any equipment, supplies and amenities are purchased according to club policy, properly stored, accounted for and distributed, conducting inventory on a regular basis
  • Provide any and all required or requested reports including checklists, schedules, shift reports and overtime authorizations
  • Participate in interviewing and evaluating applicants and employees as requested by Superintendent or Director of Agronomy
