Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP of Operations and responsible to the Hotel General Managers, the mission of the Regional Director of Sales role is to manage the direct sales and marketing program for 6-10 portfolio hotels while consistently growing the client base and generating dependable revenue streams via strong overall positioning of the Hotel within local markets.  The role entails high-level communication and leadership skills with various collaborators while assisting the VP of Operations and Sales Managers to make the best use of time through efficient sales team oversight, building strong client relationships, creative brand promotion and creating well-designed and well executed sales initiatives. The RDOS will be responsible to drive direct sales into the hotels and meet sales goals for all sales segments as described by the annual budget.

The essential duties of the Regional Director of Sales include the following:

  • Ability to travel frequently (often multi-day or full-week trips, generally weekly), to visit client locations and to personally engage both existing and potential clients a day-to-day basis. Travel and outside sales activities may require that work be performed off site up to 75% of the work week and may occasionally include weekend travel days.
  • Strong ability to mentor sales team, to drive employee engagement and team performance.
  • Strong ability to establish relationships and foster efficient, positive and proactive communication with clients, colleagues, and hotel General Managers.
  • Ability to set both short-term and long-term goals, geared towards the unique aspects of the Hotel, designed towards delivering financial success.
  • Deep industry knowledge, including range of rates across multiple platforms, volume trends, industry drivers, etc.
  • Role may require the ability to drive a motor vehicle, stand, walk, sit, talk, talk on a telephone or mobile device, carry a laptop (including while traveling), use a computer for a significant amount of time each day, to hear, and to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.

Specific requirements of the role:

  • Oversee the process of establishing and maintaining client relationships while ensuring that the sales teams are managed in an efficient and effective manner; executing team initiatives in accordance with the approve business plan and annual budget.
  • Ensure efficient departmental operations and overall profitability; implement sales strategies, sales team training programs and monitor team support requirements.
  • Drive the sales team hiring process in concert with the corporate talent acquisition team in accordance with approved budgets.
  • Submit well-vetted annual budgets and marketing plans to the VP of Operations and Hotel General Manager
  • Liaise with ownership groups at the direction of the Director of Hospitality.
  • Organize informational packages outlining hotel product and services and create effective marketing materials and presentations.
  • Provide input to Hotel General Manager with regards to rate and inventory strategies.
  • Conduct daily and weekly sales team meetings
  • Effectively communicate issues to corporate management team, as well as providing regular updates on the sales team's goals and performance.
  • Display strong moral principles and work ethic. Demonstrates the highest level of integrity and promotes ethical practices
  • Actively participate in community and civic affairs local to the hotel
  • Carrying out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the role

Qualifications

  • Educated to bachelor's degree or higher. Marketing Administration Degree or coursework a plus. 
  • Demonstrated success in a direct sales role or similar position (min. 3 years)
  • Experience working with senior management is essential
  • Deep sales and industry knowledge, including but not limited to: market qualification, 4-step selling process, file and trace management.
  • Strong experience designing annual budgets and annual revenue management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; second language a plus
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and an awesomely positive attitude.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters
  • Attention to detail and deadlines
