Job Purpose:  To manage the safe and efficient operation of all operating equipment and supervise maintenance operations - i.e., refrigeration, heating, plumbing, etc., while maintaining brand standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, develop and maintain ongoing maintenance operation for hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, HVAC units, ice machines, pool, hot tub, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generator, roof exhausts, etc.
  2. Ensure projects are completed according to specifications and on time by studying work schedules and estimating worker-hour requirements for completion.  Establish or adjust work procedures as needed.
  3. Work closely with Housekeeper and Front Office Manager to ensure coordination of activities. 
  4. Aid and instruct craftsmen in scheduling work, ordering material and completing assignments by a specified date.  May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
  5. Prepare and implement annual departmental operating budget and ensure work is performed within departmental expense plans.
  6. Monitor energy, gas and water consumption and implement programs and strategies to reduce consumption without reducing Hotel standards.
  7. Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving problems.  Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers. Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as training, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.  Reward employees who meet/exceed expectations.  Confer with workers' representatives.
  8. Interprets specifications, job orders, and company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  9. Become Chief of Joint Health & Safety Committee, ensure quarterly meetings are maintained.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  • Read and understand instructions, safety rules, etc.  Write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.  Speak with poise, voice control, and confidence.
  • Ability to understand the technologies required in the work you are directing.

Job Qualifications: 

  • experience in BAS
  • JHSC certification

Education

Must have a post-secondary School Diploma or degree in some aspect of building operations.

Experience

2 years supervisory experience in the maintenance field and 3 years experience in the plumbing, electrical trades; OR, an equivalent combination of education & experience.
