Job Overview

Prepare meals in accordance with portion and quality standards specified in recipes. Control food for a respective section(s) usage to minimize waste.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Prepare meals for respective section (s) (restaurants, banquets, outlets, etc.) and assist in all kitchen activities to ensure that guests receive high quality food items in a timely manner. Coordinate the smooth service in relation to the pass and pick-up of food.
  • Use food preparation tools in accordance with manufactures instructions and health and safety standards
  • Maintain a clean kitchen by cleaning all work surfaces used in food preparation on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain a clean, neat and well-organized work area, including but not limited to reach-ins, walk-ins and counters. Report all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  • Advise supervisor of low inventory items or may order necessary food items. Assist in receiving items and taking inventory as needed.
  • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area and equipment (tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, convention oven, flat top range and refrigerator) that meet or exceed the state and local Health Board inspection and hotel requirements
  • Report all unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment (tray, china, silver and condiments) or service at the station areas.
  • Communicate with guests and staff in friendly and positive manner.
  • Advice supervisor of low inventory items and problems related to equipment, food quality, portions, etc.
  • Perform receiving and inventory duties as specified by supervisor; stock supplies as requested.
  • Assist other cooks and may assist Kitchen utility during peak activity periods
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Key departmental contacts include Catering, Banquets, Outlets, maintenance and Guest Services.
  • Comprehend and follow recipes
  • Take directions from cook 1 , chief de partie and executive chef
  • Assist with other duties as required by management

 

Qualifications and Requirements

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 1 years of experience in food preparation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some college preferred.
  • Communication skills (written and oral) are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with the other cooks, wait staff or guests

    • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Friendly and hospitality focused
  • Attention to detail
  • Certification of culinary training or apprenticeships.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced, stressful environment.

 

This job requires ability to perform the following:

  • Carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds
