The Orchard Hotels is accepting applications for an accomplished sales leader with strategic vision and a strong record of achievement in the luxury boutique sector to join our team as Director of Sales & Marketing.  This is an exceptional opportunity to help lead our two highly successful boutique luxury San Francisco hotels, ideally situated between Union Square and Nob Hill.

The Director of Sales & Marketing will report to and work closely with the General Manager to develop and implement a smart, effective sales and marketing strategy, cultivating new and existing client relationships and providing energetic, inspiring leadership for the Sales Department, ensuring that The Orchard Hotels meet and exceed the business plan's revenue, rate and profit goals; deploying insightful, effective revenue, sales and marketing strategies reflecting a deep understanding of the local market and luxury boutique sector; creating and implementing successful tactical plans for the Sales team; and tracking and fine tuning the Sales team's progress to ensure team members' development and achievement of sales goals.   

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop a strategic plan for, and direct the day-to-day activities of, the sales team, planning, organizing, assigning and monitoring work, developing and communicating strategies and goals. 
  2. Achieve the Hotels' budgeted revenues, ADR, occupancy and profitability goals, as well as personal/team sales goals.  Take ownership of developing and achieving the Hotels' annual sales, marketing and business plan, financial plans supporting the Hotels' overall objectives, and the Sales Department's operating budget.  Produce monthly reports and sales forecasts. Display business acumen and financial responsibility, running the sales department as a business unit with a budget. This includes forward planning of sales outreach and travel calculated to maximize sales opportunities.
  3. Build on the Hotels' strong corporate and group base, also growing high rated individual business and leisure travel through outreach to travel agencies and other sources of business. Develop and cultivate new business originations, regularly selling the Hotels' products through direct client contact, focusing on high-rated corporate, transient (business and leisure) and group rooms sales with new and existing clients.
  4. Train, motivate and inspire a sales team to develop new accounts, cultivate and grow existing accounts, and implement successful sales strategies to achieve goals and maximize profits for the property, while maintaining high rates, luxury standards and a high level of guest satisfaction.
  5. Create and implement hotel-level tactical sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, increase occupancy during off-peak periods and weekends. Monitor sales activities/performance to ensure actual sales meet/exceed revenue plan.
  6. Analyze current/potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate.
  7. Schedule convention and/or business group activities at the hotel and coordinate with other hotel departments to ensure the success of group bookings and events.
  8. As part of the annual sales & marketing business plan, identify and attend, and deploy team members to attend, out-of-town conventions and trade shows to promote new business and increase sales for the hotel. 
  9. As Department Leader, recommend and/or initiate departmental human resources actions in accordance with Hotel rules and policies as agreed with the General Manager.  Advise staff of formal policies and procedures to ensure compliance. Alert management of potentially serious issues.
  10. Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with the Sales team, as well as fostering a positive, cooperative relationship with other departments.  Prepare a weekly sales activity report for the General Manager and transmission to Ownership.
  11. Proactively and regularly manage the Hotel's public relations, social media and marketing strategy in coordination with the Director of Revenue Management and outside support.    
  12. Display a high degree of integrity and judgment in representing the Hotels as well as responsible stewardship of the Hotel's assets.

 Qualifications and Requirements:

 •Bachelor's or Hotel School degree and at least 4 years' total experience in hospitality or hotel sales and marketing, with direct supervisory experience in a sales team, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.  Must speak fluent English. Experience in Four or Five Star Hotels sales, luxury boutique/independent hotels, and local market experience are preferred.
