Experience:                                                                         

  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Chief Engineer in the hospitality or related industry
  • HVAC Certification
  • Extensive knowledge of Commercial Plumbing and Electrical systems
  • High School diploma
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot systems

Summary                                                                                                     

Ensures the proper upkeep of the facilities by overseeing maintenance operations at the assigned properties.

This position is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the hotels to include; machinery, ordering supplies, projects, vendor relations, and training of the maintenance personnel. Implement policies and procedures and recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. In addition, support and communicate company production, housekeeping, and safety goals.

 

Job Duties                                                                                                   

The Regional Chief Engineer is responsible for the proper upkeep of his/her assigned properties, by supervising the maintenance operations at each facility through the guidance of the General Manager.

 

  • Regional Chief Engineer will work with and ensure all required standards of hotel Maintenance is in accordance to both Baywood and the specific brand requirements.
  • Although on-site Maintenance will report to the GM of the given Property, the maintenance staff will have a dotted line of reporting to Regional Chief Engineer position.
  • Regional Chief Engineer will create Standard Operating Procedures or Regional SOP's for each hotel based on the skill and level of training and organization of that given hotels Maintenance staff. There needs to be approval by EVP or Regional Manager.

 

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the maintenance department.
  • Ensures Preventative Maintenance Program is in place via training and routine inspections
  • Ensures the execution of on-going appropriate maintenance programs, such as room and general area preventative maintenance, inventory control, smoke detector testing, pool chemical checks, filter cleaning, ice machine preventative maintenance and van care and maintenance.
  • Assist with the creation budgeting guidelines for the Maintenance department.
  • Makes recommendations regarding engineering budget to the property General Manager and Regional Operations Manager.
  • Selects, and monitors the performance of outside contractors. Ensuring that all contractors are licensed & insured.
  • Ensures that properties are in adherence to both Baywood and Brand standards.
  • Ensures that the maintenance department is knowledgeable of, and is in compliance with all current federal, state and local laws/ordinances for which the department is responsible.
  • Provides assistance to the property maintenance staff, as needed. This includes, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing malfunctioning electrical/mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Responsible to communicate the need to purchase equipment, parts and materials to the General Manager and if needed to purchase the listed items. Items of $500 or more will need Regional Ops approval.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the hotel vehicles.
  • Responsible for the oversight and communication with the Inspectors; such as pool, elevators, fire and safety, boilers and building inspectors. General Manager will communicate with Regional Chief Engineer of timing schedule of inspection.
  • Monitors, trains and develops the performance of the Maintenance staff to exceed standards.
  • Assist the General Manager in the interviewing and selection of Maintenance staff. Ensures that the selected candidate is able to perform the required duties of the position.
  • Performs regularly scheduled property inspections to identify potential and current needs.
  • Develops and maintains a database of all capital equipment such as boilers, HVAC units, dryers, washers at each property.
  • Estimates department expenditures for budget purposes and assisting with the capital budget process as well as request purchasing for needed equipment once confirmed and approved by GM and/or Regional.
  • Develops, implements and monitors a master maintenance tracking plan for each hotel.
  • Assist with hotel openings and renovations as appropriate.
  • Participates in Baywood BEAR and other Baywood sponsored community service events.
  • Additional duties may be added at any time at the discretion of management.

 

Consistently models the behavior of a 'Baywood Ambassador' who:

  • Communicates with General Manager prior and after hotel visit, when possible.
  • Maintains a professional image, including grooming, verbiage, and body language, at all times.
  • Warmly greets both guests and coworkers (using the 10/5, first & last rule) every time they come in contact.
  • Actively listens to guests and associates, responding with genuine professionalism, to their questions and/or concerns. Seeks guidance and/or assistance from others to ensure satisfaction.
